Pure Florida captain receives certificate of appreciation from United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for rescue of stranded boaters

Photo 1Pure Florida’s Captain Joe Popka received recognition from the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for his efforts to save fellow boaters from a submerged vessel. On March 18, while on duty as the captain of Pure Florida’s M/V Naples Explorer, Popka and his passengers were returning from a sunset fishing trip when they noticed two boaters next to a capsized boat in the waters of the Naples Bay. Popka, the first mate and passengers quickly took action to rescue the boaters and their submerged vessel, pulling them to safety. In recognition of his efforts, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Popka by members of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Flotilla 93 – Naples, Florida.

“We are proud of Popka’s quick thinking and valiant efforts, and are grateful that he was in the right place at the right time to ensure that these boaters and their vessel were brought to safety,” said Harry Julian, co-founder of Pure Florida. “When out on the waters, it is essential to look out for the safety of not only our crew and passengers, but also for our fellow boaters, and this is a great example of why it is important to remain vigilant and to make safety a priority.”
