Pure Florida introduces “Pure Pink” weekend retreat Oct. 9-11 to benefit American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Double Sunshine

The statistics are alarming: one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. To support breast cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones and in recognition of breast cancer awareness month, Pure Florida will host a “Pure Pink” weekend retreat Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11.

The three-day retreat is open to the public and benefits the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” program. Packages are available for $200 per person and include a two-night stay on Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Residence Inn Naples.

The retreat begins on Friday, Oct. 9 with a silent auction at the Residence Inn Naples from 7-10 p.m. On Saturday, guests will enjoy complimentary breakfast at Residence Inn Naples, followed by a 90-minute dolphin cruise aboard Pure Florida’s M/V Double Sunshine in Naples. On Saturday evening, guests will be transported to a dinner theater performance at Broadway Palm Theatre. The weekend retreat will conclude Sunday morning with brunch at The Cider Press Café. The “Pure Pink” package also includes hotel shuttle transportation and discount shopping at the historic Tin City. All of the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” program. Participants are encouraged to wear pink throughout the two-day event. Reservations can be made by calling Steven Györkös at 239-659-2309 or sgyorkos@csmcorp.net.

For the Julian family, owners of Pure Florida, the cause is a personal one. The Julian’s friend and colleague, Barb Frederick, is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The Julian’s first met Frederick on the set of the television show “Survivor” where they all worked on various elements of the reality show’s production. The Julian family recently recruited Frederick to join Pure Florida’s production company, Pure Image Productions.

“As a breast cancer patient, ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ is very near and dear to my heart. I understand the shock of receiving the diagnosis, the pain of treatment and the flood of emotions that it brings,” said Frederick, vice-president of development for Pure Image Productions. “One day I was having an especially rough day at work and Lance Julian encouraged me to take my lunch aboard the M/V Double Sunshine. At that moment, I finally took time to exhale and to enjoy the dolphins, birds and other wildlife from aboard the cruise – a much needed break during a difficult time. I am eternally grateful for the support that I have received from the Julian’s and my Pure Florida family. I hope that the Pure Pink retreat not only raises dollars for support, but brings a greater level of awareness and a feeling of community support to other breast cancer patients and their friends and families.”

All proceeds will go to the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” program at American Cancer Society to finish the fight against breast cancer by funding groundbreaking breast cancer research, educating and supporting those affected by breast cancer and encouraging people to take steps to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society is helping to save more than 490 lives a day through its commitment to research, education, developing legislation, prevention and early detection.
