Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida invites the community to support its efforts to prepare young people for success in a global economy by donating to the organization through Give Where You Live Collier, Feb. 29 – March 1, 2016.

Give Where You Live Collier is a county-wide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Collier County through online giving. The Community Foundation of Collier County and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation are partnering to present Give Where You Live Collier with 40 participating nonprofit organizations in 2016. Donations are accepted through GiveWhereYouLiveCollier.org.

As a participating nonprofit, Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida will benefit from Give Where You Live Collier in many ways.

“The donations we receive through Give Where You Live Collier help us do more to support the community and ensure that our future generation is prepared to succeed in the business world,” said Angela Fisher, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida. “Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year, which is a part of our annual operating budget. We also want to earn our share of the $400,000 matching fund.”

$400,000 Matching Fund

Thanks to the Community Foundation of Collier County and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, Give Where You Live Collier features a $400,000 matching fund. Every nonprofit that receives a donation from noon, Feb. 29, 2016 to noon, March 1, 2016 will receive a proportionate share of the matching fund, increasing the value of every dollar donated. For example, if Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida receives 10 percent of the total donations made through Give Where You Live Collier, Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida also receives 10 percent of the $400,000 matching fund.

“Thanks to generous members of our community and hardworking nonprofits, we expect Give Where You Live Collier to be a great success,” said Eileen Connolly-Keesler, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Collier County. “Not only the dollars raised, but the number of donors contributing to the success of the day will showcase the generosity of this community.”

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida and its community partner, CNLBank recently visited students at Bonita Springs Elementary School in Bonita Springs on Monday, Nov. 2, to present Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida’s “JA in a Day” program to approximately 150 of the school’s fourth- and fifth-grade students. During the half-day program, 12 volunteers spoke to the students about financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work-readiness, sharing their collective business expertise in order to instill the tools and resources students need to succeed in future careers. The volunteers taught the first “JA in a Day” program the school had ever thumbnail (1)received.

The “JA in a Day” program for fourth-grade students featured presentations on the JA Our Region, focusing on
entrepreneurship, and what it takes to operate a successful business in Southwest Florida, allowing students to examine regional and state resources and supply chains, and solve problems by weighing risks and potential awards. The program for fifth-grade students incorporated JA Our Nation to focus on work-readiness, providing practical information about the nation’s free market system and introducing the need for entrepreneurial and innovative thinking to meet the needs of high-growth, high-demand careers, also explaining the concept of globalization in business. The programs concluded with the presentation of certificates for the participating students.

“Junior Achievement is fortunate to be able to work with the incredible students of Bonita Springs Elementary School, their teachers and administrators, as well as the long-time, gracious volunteers from CNLBank,” said Lysa Kennedy, program manager for Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida.
